Lamorna Nightingale

Lamorna Nightingale is a freelance flautist, concert presenter, educator and publisher with a passion for collaboration, the development of innovative modes of expression and nurturing diversity in Australian art music.

She is a core member of Ensemble Offspring and the Artistic Director of Backstage Music, a concert series dedicated to new music in Sydney.These roles have seen her work directly with hundreds of Australian composers at all stages of their careers and developing programs which create a space for under-represented voices to be heard.

Her performance career is closely intertwined with her work in the education sector as a flute teacher, examiner, mentor, content creator and publisher. Through her publishing company Fluteworthy, she has created several pedagogical volumes of repertoire for young flute players and developed, collated and recorded albums which introduce young players to new Australian music. 

Recent career highlights include performances of Jack Symonds opera Gilgamesh with the Sydney Chamber Opera; Brett Dean’s Hamlet with Opera Australia; the 2023-24 season of the musical Wicked; the 2023 Ensemble Offspring European Tour which included music developed in Ngarra-Burria First Nations Composers Initiative and; Trace, BackStage Music’s second program showcasing the unique perspectives of artists with disability.
