Nightingale Project

In the middle of the covid lock-downs with plenty of time on our hands my husband Jim and I enjoyed getting our instruments out each day and just mucking around making music together. There aren’t too many existing pieces for flute and saxoophone and the limits to improvising skills were reached pretty quickly so we commissioned our friend Amanda Cole to write us a piece which we were able to record alongside other existing repertoire for flute and saxophone at Phoenix Central Park as part of the Behind Doors project supported by Judith Nielsen. Repertoire - Air (Paul Stanhope) Strohbass (Marcos Balter) Oracle Chamber (Amanda Cole)

As lockdowns continued and we got closer to Jim’s 50th birthday and our 20th wedding anniversary and there seemed to be no prospect of any public parties we decided to commission some of our composer friends to write some music for us instead. We set up up a little Facebook donations page and were overwhelmed by the support we received from family and friends to help make this project happen. We really loved working with Tristan Coelho, Rosalind Page and Kezia Yap on their new pieces and used our new tech skills to record their pieces on our back verandah!
